Product Description
GABA is found in large amounts in the hypothalamus suggesting that this amino acid plays a crucial role in the hypothalamic-pituitary function. The hypothalamus is a region on the back of the brain, which regulates the instinctive functions, such as sleep cycles, body temperature and the activity of the pituitary gland. The pituitary is the master endocrine gland that affects all hormonal functions of the body. One primary hormone produced in and secreted by the pituitary is growth hormone, which is of great interest to the athlete to give more strength and afford faster recovery after intense exercise. Several clinical studies have shown that ingestion of GABA releases growth hormone, especially after exercise, with remarkable effectiveness. Release of growth hormone increases lean body mass. Consequently, it is an invaluable nutritional supplement for body builders, powerlifters, runners, martial artists, and other athletes of all shades.

I have purchased GABA produced by other companies in the past and was unable to discern any benefit. However, two capsules of GABA Mass (containing 900 mg of GABA) causes mild-moderate muscle relaxation, as well as slight mental dullness, as if one is tired. The effects are similar to those of benzodiazepines. Because of this, it is ideal for moderate anxiety, muscle aches and spasms, and insomnia. Up to 1800 mg taken before bed ensures that I fall asleep comfortably. GABA is a wonderful replacement for prescription muscle relaxers and benzodiazepines. I do wish that the product listing noted that each of the 90 capsules contains 450 mg, rather than the bottle containing 90 900 mg capsules.

Good for the body, nothing for the mind.

I was under the impression that GABA helped with "stress"; but GABA cannot cross the blood-brain-barrier thus there are absolutely no mental effects. However for the body it is said to relax it, I can't tell if placebo or not but it did seem to relax my body very very slightly. The benefits of GABA scientifically speaking are very good so I do recommend this product if you are thinking about getting it.
