GU Chomps

I have recently started to increase the duration of my runs to train for a half-marathon and have been experimenting with various energy chews. The raspberry flavor is good. The texture was just right: it was gummy but without being sticky. It did not leave residue on my fingers or get stuck in my teeth, but it was soft enough to only have to chew a few times before swallowing, without having to stop running. These are divided into enough chews that you can take 2-3 every 30 minutes, or 1 every 15-20 minutes - really whatever you prefer. I used these (not a whole pack) on a 7 mile run and when I finished I felt like I could just keep going and going. These didn't hurt my stomach at all, but I will say I took them one at a time and had water with them. Once you open the pack, the air goes out and these easily fit into a pocket of compression shorts or running belt, and the chews were easy to get out during the run. I like these, but if you are just starting to use energy chews, I would suggest going to a store where you can buy one of each of a large selection of energy chews - brand, flavor, texture, caffeine or no, digestive side effects - there are so many options and you have to find the right one for you!

Gu Chomps are my preferred mid run refuel, I've tried a few types and this one is the best. They are a little sweet, so drink plenty of water.

Yummy bites and love the packaging

My wife hates all the traditional gu type energy gels, she doesn't like the texture of them. This and the shot bloks are her favorite alternative. They are a hybrid between gummy bear and fruit snacks. These are more towards the consistency of fruit snacks. I feel the shot blocks are slightly firmer to chew on. These come in a package very similar to fruit snacks and have a bunch of the chomps so it makes them easier to share around. The shot bloks come in a sleeve of 6 chews and are easier if you are out solo. On long hikes these comings have been great to give multiple people a quick boost.
