Great to shorten your cold!

These pills are great for after you get a cold. It shortens the length of your cold and your symptoms aren't as bad. My colds used to last 3 or 4 weeks with congestion and coughing just hanging on and on. Now, it's over in a week and not bad congestion or coughing. It works for me but you have to take the pills as directed.

I use this one as a preventive measure

*****I am not a doctor, I cannot give medical advice*****What follows is my usage and experience with this and similar products*****a sort of journal/diary entry:How I take it:-Upon first contact with a sick person I take 12 of these (Dr. Shen's Gan Mao Ling) (I get sick very easily due to immune system problems). This has definitely helped me fight off many viral infections (colds) before I became symptomatic. I keep two of my doses in the vehicle at all times. If I wait too long (hours) after contact, this is not as effective. Just like vitamin-c and zinc are far more effective if taken at least some minutes before contact.-I started doing this based on speaking with a reliable/trustworthy source with inside/in-depth knowledge on this particular brand.-Name brand Chinese remedies have previously been prescribed to me for me to take anywhere from 2-4 times the amount suggested on the bottle, but sometimes at a slightly different frequency.-Chinese remedies certainly do work if taken as instructed on the bottle, but for people with weak immune systems or very strong strains of infections, they are sometimes prescribed stronger dosages, just like some people take lots more of some Western/Allopathic medicines when the doctor or patient feels or knows from experience this will work better for them.-Medicine is very personal, be cautious, seek advice, and what works for other people may not work for you.From the bottle:-3 tablets, every three or four hours; or as prescribed by your doctor.From product page:it says not to take this long term on this product page. This make sense, especially if you're taking the BLASTER dose that I do (which is more effective at stopping than treating anyway). The reason behind this is it will have a cooling effect on your body. Cooling yourself down from the inside for too long may have an ill effect, it usually does. Of course this is typically less detrimental than stronger Allopathic drugs. I typically wouldn't take my blaster dose (12 pills) more than once a day for 3 days, and I've only done that once or twice ever. I encourage anyone taking any kind of medicine to educate themselves on the general principles that affect that type of medicine, whether it is Chinese, Homeopathic (my other fav), Ayurvedic (Indian), or Traditional Wester / Allopathic medicine (learning about any you consider taking is better, and comparing/contrasting all will help you make the right decision).Notes on the general remedy "Gan Mao Ling"-Most brands of Gan Mao Ling, including this one advise you to take this WHILE you are taking other remedies including Zong Gan Ling or Yin Qiao/Yin Chiao. I have tried another brand of Gan Mao Ling that I took just a little more than the bottle said and it did seem to help out while taking Dr. Shen's Zong Gan Ling (another favorite of mine). Unfortunately I forgot the brand (it's not Plum Flower, that brand occupies only a small minority of spots on my personal shelf of remedies), but I would probably get it again... I think it was ~Something "Dragon", maybe "Jade Dragon", I'm going to try to find it again...Related Chinese remedies I use that I often take together:Planetary Herbals: Yin Qiao Classic (moderately higher dosage)(almost every cold)Dr. Shen's: Zong Gan Ling (slightly higher dosage) (often, especially stronger colds)Homeopathic Remedies I use in conjunction with Chinese remedies:Boiron: Cold Calm (tabs) (almost every cold)Boiron: Sinus (tabs) (sometimes, usually if I'm worried about a sinus infection, and not just a viral one)NatraBio: Cold & Sinus (nasal spray) (about 1/2 to 1/3 of the time)I do not really like Dr. Shen's Yin Chiao, because I do not feel it's strong enough, even at double the bottles dosage.There are some other brands/remedies that I like but much harder to come by so they haven't been on my shelf for quite some time.
